Desserts- The finishing touch to an Italian dish
Italian desserts are a delicacy by any standards and hence this can
be considered as a very interesting form of cuisine. Italian cuisine
cannot be considered to be complete without the inclusion of desserts in
the diet. Desserts can be of many types and Italian deserts mostly
include dishes like biscotti, cakes, fruit desserts and various other
cookies. Truffles and tarts form the backbone of Italian desserts.
Truffles are mostly made up of amaretto and chocolate chips. The truffle
is served in a Martini glass which is filled with whipped cream. Tarts
are basically small biscuit cakes with chocolate or lemon fillings.

The tarts are sweet dishes which are filled with liquid chocolate.
Once the tart is well prepared the chocolate solidifies; it imparts a
special taste to the tart. Biscotti are very easy to make and hence it
can be regarded as a very useful food item for many who wish to want
cookies in a short period of time. The rum cake is another variety of
desert which is very much popular around the world. The rum cake is easy
to make. The main difference between rum cake and normal cake is the
essence which is used in making up this thing. Rum is used while baking
the basic dough and hence the taste resembles that of cooked rum.
Panforte is an Italian desert which is more or less a combination of
dense almonds along with a mixture of various fruits. The mixture is
served cold along with a glass of wine. Wine is not compulsory but the
real pleasure in having Panforte is with wine. Panettone is the regular
Christmas cake which is found in most of the confectionary shops of
Italy. These shops would stack loads of Panettone in order to supply it
to the buyers.

This dish is also served with wine and other liqueurs which would
compliment the very taste of Panettone. Zuppa Engleze is a form of semi
solid dessert which includes sponge cake along with a tinge of custard
cream. The custard cream is spread over the entire piece of cake and
then it is served with a variety of condiments. Most of the Italian
deserts are served with chilled wine and this particular dish is no
exception. Italian doughnuts are pretty much famous and can be
considered as gourmand snacks. The doughnuts can be stored for long
periods of time with the best of effect which would make things pretty
convenient for travelers.
Cannoli is a dry desert which is available in almost every Italian
sweet shop; it is basically an empty pastry shell filled with a variety
of fillings. The wide variety of fillings used may even include a number
of fruits and nuts. Nuts and fruits are often added to these particular
deserts in order to enhance the overall taste and effect of this
particular food item.
Cassata is a ice cream cake which has its origins in the Arab regions
but still it has become a popular dessert for the Italians. The Italians
love to go for Cassata which is basically a cake which would be served
with hot fillings including cream and chocolate. The authentic version
of Cassata is different; it has got layers of a sponge cake; one above
another which would be soaked in dark rum. The main attractive part of
this dish is that it is basically a multilayered pudding cake which is
filled with a substantial quantity of rum inside it.
The rum filled interior is the most attractive part of this dish. A
wide variety of Italian chocolates have filled the world markets and
this is especially due to the fact this is a very attractive dish which
is easy to eat and easy to transport too.
